About Dr. Jay Jorge
Advanced Foregut, Bariatric, and General Surgery
Dr. Jay Jorge is a double board-certified general surgeon and obesity medicine specialist serving patients across Augusta, Aiken, and the surrounding region. At Savannah River Advanced Surgery, he provides thoughtful, technically advanced surgical care with a focus on clear communication, careful decision-making, and durable outcomes.
His practice includes advanced foregut surgery, including diaphragmatic and paraesophageal hernias, reflux operations, revisional procedures, and complex minimally invasive surgery. He also provides a broad range of general surgery care, including abdominal wall hernias, complex hernia cases, colorectal surgery, and other abdominal procedures.
Dr. Jorge is fellowship trained in bariatric and robotic surgery and also serves as a proctor for Intuitive, helping teach other surgeons robotic techniques. At the same time, he believes good surgery is not defined by a single platform; he values minimally invasive, robotic, and open surgery equally when each is the right approach for the patient.
Patients and referring physicians value Dr. Jorge’s honesty, bedside manner, and commitment to direct communication. He believes patients deserve a surgeon who explains options clearly, sets realistic expectations, and remains engaged before, during, and after surgery, while referring clinicians deserve timely updates and a trusted partner in care.
Before becoming a surgeon, Dr. Jorge served as an active-duty Navy Corpsman, including deployment to Iraq, an experience that helped shape the discipline, calm, and service mindset he brings to practice today. He completed his General Surgery residency at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine / Northwestern Memorial Hospital and his fellowship in Bariatric and Robotic Surgery at the University of South Florida / Tampa General Hospital.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Jorge enjoys traveling, scuba diving, great food, and time with his wife and young daughter. He is bilingual in English and Spanish.
